Home » Good to know » BRUXISM

By the term “bruxism” refers to the phenomenon of bruxism. Usually this happens during sleep and therefore, one even unaware of their disease. Over time the bruxism can cause pain in the teeth, and their abrasion. Teeth can come in dental arch and cause disturbances in your bite. The stress and the anxiety often act as the main reason for the bruxism. The disease often develops in people who have sensitive teeth to hot and cold.

Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), which is associated with reduced function of the adrenal glands may also appear as a reason for the bruxism. If you are making large ceramic structures, it is desirable to report a habit of the dentist. Otherwise the bruxism can damage the ceramic coating structures.

To determine whether you have bruxism, you must answer the following questions:

  • Does strong teeth clenching, gnashing of teeth there? Someone told you that you do?
  • Do you have headaches, sore neck and shoulders?
  • Mandibular your tracks is when you open and close.
  • Do you feel fatigue in the teeth, jaw muscles when getting up from sleep?
  • Do you have sensitive teeth?
  • Do you have pain (have you ever) in the jaw or jaw sections, which are located in the ears?

Treatment and prevention

While the bruxism symptoms in adults can be overcome, the state generally can not be cured. Try if possible to avoid stressful situations. The bruxism treatment is very difficult and methods such as nasal congestion at night, breathing through the mouth and are not recommended. The only method that gives a result in this case is the development of occlusal splints of soft plastic (similar to buses in boxers) and placed on the teeth during sleep. Soft plastic protects the teeth from their abrasion and increased occlusal height leads to reset the tone of the masticatory muscles. Over time, regular place in the latter can eliminate habit.
